Tuesday nights are my night of the week. Hubby has band practice at church from the time he gets off work until almost 10pm. That means I get to enjoy NCIS, The Mentalist and/or any other shows I need to catch up on without interruption. See hubby likes to ask questions when I am watching a show and it drives me up the wall.
My parents had just left Tuesday morning so I sent the kids to bed a little early (they are always exhausted after a visit from Paw-paw and Nana) and settled in to enjoy my night. I had my bag/basket full of yarn and intended to finish a Christmas gift while watching some tv.
The only problem was that the house was cold. We have hit a cold spell in Eastern North Carolina, and in an effort to save money we keep our house cool in the winter. We have blankets laying all over the house and just put on long sleeves if we are really chilly. That has worked fine the past few years. For whatever reason though this year I am constantly cold.
What was worse was that my hands were so cold while I was knitting. I wanted to just put the knitting down and stick my hands under the nice warm blanket.
What is a knitter to do?

Day 2 has gone considerably better than Day 1. I was a rule follower today.



We did, however, oversleep this morning. Waking up at 7:30 when you should be in the car on the way to school at 7:30 is just not a good thing. Thankfully, the kids usually go a little early to eat breakfast. Their school is considered a Title 1 school, and while I don't know exactly what that means, it does offer every student in the school free breakfast. My kids love the breakfast at school. And I love free. So that's where they usually eat. There was a time when I would have felt guilty, but not anymore. Since we were late, I knew they would miss breakfast. (They weren't late for school...just for breakfast.) So I whipped up some toast with peanut butter and bananas, and they ate it in the car on the way to school. Good mommies do that sometimes, don't they? That doesn't fall into the "lame parenting" category, I don't think.



So I didn't eat breakfast again. I'm not sure why. But I did eat a banana midmorning, and then had a Michelina's Lean Gourmet that I got on sale for $.58. Their website says "quality you can trust...and eat". Not so sure I agree with that.



For dinner, we had our weekly "Breakfast for Dinner" meal. One of my favorites. Ham, Egg, Cheese Scramble with toast and grapes.



Side Note: I do not consider myself a good cook. But I manage to get by. And I do like to try new things occasionally. But if you are looking for original, creative, or extreme healthy, my blog might not be the place to find it. Just saying.

How do we, as writers, step outside our own worldview to create imaginary cultures in which magic is a fact of life? Berman will talk about anthropological understandings of magic and myth, and issues of authenticity and appropriation, while Micklem will share some sources, primary and anthropological, that influenced her own fiction.

Admittedly this post is aimed at Americans. For those who don t know, the United Kingdom celebrates Mothers Day in March, a couple of months before the US (Fathers Day is, however, the same date). I cannot tell you what confusion this brought me when I first moved to this country. Once a year I would panic it had suddenly become Mothers Day and I hadnt as much as sent mine a card, but phew! I would still have two months to get my nasty daughterly ways in order.
Still, I think Mothers Day is a tough holiday in terms of shopping. While I am not against the typical stuff, if I am to give a gift to anyone I want it to be unique and suited to them personally. Otherwise I would rather not give a gift at all. Thats why I thought I would make a list of some unique and unusual Mothers Day gift ideas for mothers who enjoy time in the kitchen.
